T. Walter Wallbank analyzes the historic trends in the fabric of Hinduism and Islam. He compares the basic beliefs and attitudes of each religion towards the caste system, the status of untouchability, non-violence, child marriage, deity worship.
He evaluates the forward steps that India and Pakistan have taken since independence and he discusses the economic and foreign policy problems which face India and Pakistan the solution of which will affect the future of the world.
T. WALTER WALLBANK is a professor of history at the University of Southern California. In 1951-1952, he was a Fulbright Lecturer at Fouad University in Cairo. In the fall and spring of 1956-1957, he made a research trip to India and Pakistan, under the auspices of the Rockefeller Foundation, to obtain material for this book.
