Catalogue of the Ancient Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum by P. R. S. Moorey

  • 8,500.00 ฿

The Ashmolean Museum has a very representative collection of over five hundred bronze objects from western Persia, virtually all pre-Achaemenid in date. This catalogue presents a complete illustrated inventory of the collection, which is particularly rich in
'Luristan Bronzes', with full reference to comparable objects in other collections.
There is a long introduction, detailed discussions of each category of object and a concluding essay on prehistoric metallurgy in Persia, incorporating spectroscopic analyses of over 120 objects in the Ashmolean collection. The whole volume, with full bibliography and a list of the inscribed 'Luristan Bronzes', is designed to provide a wide ranging and up-to-date review of all available evidence, some of it from recent excavations and field surveys, for the history of pre-Achaemenid metalwork in western Persia.
